Recently, I had a chat with a doctor colleague (he's Filipino) in my workplace. We were super busy. Despite the circumstances, we chatted a little after we settled. Out of the blue he told me "Ma'm nag-boblog ka pala! Kasi one time nakita ko nagpost ka sa facebook. Ayun binasa ko. Nakakatuwa." I was like..."Really!!! All the while I thought mga kapatid ko lang ang nagbabasa nun. I'm happy na may natutuwa naman sa mga pinagsusulat ko.

I redeveloped my blog's concept to  maintain my written English coherence, relieve stress, pass time and share what I know...Positive vibes lang. Ayaw ko na ng nega like my first blog where my rants are documented. Don't get me wrong, I don't have a perfect life, I just want to appreciate what I can do and what I have.

I'm glad that there are a few people who take time to comment. Meaning, I can stir interest. Thank you. I hope to see more of you wherever you are.

Music Monday: Moments of Love

The theme song of my second favorite movie that GMA films produced (first being Rizal).

Bangkok Traffic Love Story

This review is  biased. Because I have a crush with the male lead whose screen name is hard to pronounce. Hahaha!

I watched this movie out of curiosity. Because the recently released Seven Something movie has same producers with BTLS. "It must be something?!" I told myself when I saw the Seven Something poster in the cinemas.

Story-wise it's a typical boy-meets-girl love story that was set in Bangkok's busy BTS trains. The story caters to urban ladies with age brackets of late 20's to early 30's especially to those who had NO Boyfriend Since Birth. There was some moments in the film that are not quite coherent in some parts. It's forgivable though. I think the exaggerations and kaartehan of the female lead has helped to give humor. As for the male lead just look at his face and you're on for a box office hit.

I like it because the story is funny, bitter-sweet separation, sad realizations and homecoming. The story was unpredictable if I compare it to the typical mainstream Pinoy movie. Surprisingly, no kissing scene.

  1. It's all about KEN (the male lead's English name). He's so gwapo!!!
  2. Mario Maurer's brother Marco is one of P'lern's boyfriend.
  3. It's a chick flick rom-com, watch it with your girlfriends.
  4. I could relate to the train locations. Hubby and I spent our honeymoon there.
  5. I wish our LRT/MRT back home is as efficient as the BTS.

I'm turning 28 in a few...

What am I having on my special day? Nothing...Because I will be working!

Well it's not that hurtful as compared to my first birthday here in SG. I was working and crying. It's due to the fact that I've already adjusted well in this country. I've built relationships that I'll cherish. I've adapted to a culture that made me grasp the concept of understanding. I had established a part of me that is open to explore new heights.

I'm ever thankful for all the blessings that I've received for this year. Not everything is smooth sailing but I managed to overcome the obstacles. Looking forward for another great year of adventures. To all the people who became a part of my life thank you. To my family and relatives who is always there to support. My husband who has always been my motivator and positive-thinking coach, I love you and I hope to be with you soon.

P.S. I was writing this a few minutes before 12 midnight. thus the title but I think I was overdue in publishing.

Short Films are LOVE

The internet has been a very good medium for filmmakers. As an audience myself, I love the idea of easier access.

The Dancing Dead
The dancing version for the famous TV series "The Walking Dead."

My Generasi
This is for the 90's babies. The time when there's no Facebook, iPod/iPhone, Tablets and PC. I could totally relate.

Music Monday: Demi Lovato

After Camp Rock 1 and 2, not to mention her rehab stint. I just glad this young lady was able to bounce back and what she does best. One of the Disney grad that has "The Voice." She looks way better after coming out of rehab, the body shape and image that suites her build. Keep it up Ms. Lovato.

  • My sister KC created a new blog that serves as her catharsis for everything that is optimistic that happens in her life. She wants to steer away from ranting negativism but instead to express thanks in all the blessings that has come to her/our lives. To celebrate the beauty this life has to offer. (Ang drama ng description ha). She blogged about the places we've been to (which I never had the chance to do).
  1. Dagupan and Baguio Getaway - ang takas na lakad.
  2. Ang Kwento ni Mang Abe - School Fieldtrip that happened eons ago.
  3. Our Zark's Burger Experience.
  4. The best Shawarma in Manila.

The Perks Of Being A Wallflower

What is a Wallflower?
In social situations, a wallflower is a shy or unpopular individual who doesn't socialize or participate in activities at social events. The term comes from the image of a person isolating themselves from areas of social activities at ballroom dances and parties, where the people who did not wish to dance (or had no partner) remained close to the walls of the dance hall. ---WIKIPEDIA

I felt like I've watched a somewhat movie version of Catcher in the Rye. It tackles on the never-ending youth issues (e.g. bullying, sexuality, fitting in  etc.).. As movie watcher, I'm one of the nakakarelate audience being a teenager and high school student. I don't know how closely the movie was interpreted from the book. My sister said it must be close because the author of the book is also the director. We'll never know because book and movie are two different mediums of literature/art. So I have to check out the book soon.

What I like about the movie is the presence of a role model of the teacher (Paul Rudd), supportive family and good friends. There are some unclear points in the story that I was hoping it was clearly elaborated or hinted in the book. As for the Emma Watson post-Harry Potter project, I could say she did a good job. She has grown up, speaking with no hint of British accent and proved herself that she has can progress her acting. As for "Percy Jackson" a good career move for a follow-up movie. Patrick is effective in his gay role.

The OST (Original Soundtrack) am not a big fan of it (that's why I can't even describe what kind is it) but genuinely fits the feel and mood of the movie. I could relate at some point that they base their "moments" into a appropriate song thus the mixed tapes. Cheesy but I love it! I think they have better tastes A list of literature/book that Charlie's teacher has passed for him to read. It'll serve as my future reference of books to be read by me.

The twist and revelations on the last 1/4 parts of the movie was enthralling. You won't want to miss a thing.

The Hiatus is Over

I had fun for the last two weeks. My trip overseas had some irritating and physically tiring moments but I'm still happy. I went to a place that I've been wishing for ever since I was a kid. Will post about it soon.

Love is Messy

For Garrett Popcorn that is...

Me and my sibs love this popcorn. I share the same sentiments with sister KC when she has written this in her blog. I first discovered this popcorn during our day trip in Sentosa island outside the newly opened Universal Studios. Since then, I never turned back, the best popcorn that I've ever tasted!

But eversince I've started dieting, I've wished that they could sell it in a smaller bag just enough to satisfy my cravings. It came true a few days ago when I saw that they have this petite bag that sells for $2 but this doesn't include the Plain/Buttery variety. I asked the salesperson whether it's a promo or a forever thing. She said it's a promotion. Not sure until when and not available in all outlets.

From Suntec to Bugis

I was finishing the filling up my first ever balikbayan box, I went to Suntec to scour RSH for Ipanema slippers (Note: Prices go as low as $5 for an Ipanema, especially on their last day of sale but I wasn't able to come. I'm not even sure if they lowered it down to $5). Unfortuantely, my relatives' feet sizes are small from the available sizes (9 and 10). I stuck to the plan of going to Bugis if I come out empty handed. I  decided to walk since it was just a few meters away.

I'm familiar with the place because my wedding venue is within the vicinity. I decided to stop by Subway for a quick bite. I was surprised that Subway is conjoined with a coffee shop. So far, its the biggest subway joint that I have ever been to.

The place inside is very spacious.
I'm not adventurous to try coffee on that day. Though the siphoned coffee sounds interesting.  I'm not sure if its connected to Oromo Coffee Company with a very good cause for making coffee.
My usual $5 dollar combo: Cold Cut Trio

Why the face bebeh?!
After my meal, off I go to Bugis passing through Hotel Intercontinental. I noticed there's a newly opened store (I think?!) that sells asymmetrical designed clothes (meaning: weird and unique looking but looks awesome when I wear it hehehe). I wasn't able to get the shop's exact name. All I see is the Japanese character in the hangers.

I will definitely go back and check out their while merchandise. They also sell accessories and handbags.

I go to Bugis Street for the chocolates. I buy them at this store behind Bugis Street beside the durian stand. The store is somewhat like Valu$ in Toa Payoh. The products are mostly cheap especially if you're going to compare it with Choc-Spot in Lucky Plaza. But be very careful to check the expiration date of the food. I haven't encountered anything expired. I have been buying my pasalubong there ever since.

As of this writing, my box is on it's way to PHL. I just hope and pray that nothing bad happens to it.

Food, Coffee, Movie

Chedz, Kem, Vic, Erm
I was given the chance to have a longer days off from work. Unwinding is an open option. I preferred to spend it with friends this time.

First off, to check out what is in store for island invasion of Gerry's Grill.
Located @ 51 Cuppage Road Singapore 229469...It's quite difficult to find just take note from Og in Orchard Road go inside the street where you can see the Cuppage Terraces. Walk straight ahead then you can see the Starhub Centre facing Holiday Inn. You can see it quickly because it's just outside the entrance of the building.
The menu is not similar to what we have in Manila. The best, from what we've eaten was the Grilled Squid (sotong). It's juicy and easy to mechanically digest.  The price is also affordable and reasonable.
We are really hungry. No food shots for now.
For me and Ate Erm's case, after our food trip we went to watch a movie. Something to break the spell of her movie-watching-in-the-cinema-drought. Thus the movie review of how hot is Colin Farrell  of Total Recall.

Then another coffee date for me, Chedz and Kem.
I know that this is some gasgas na kapehan for some. I just took a picture because I'm amazed on how this coffee shop tends to appear in some unexpected location.
This shop is located beside a mall in level with its basement floor. I just hope I was able to take a pic of the whole thing. i find it amazing. Wait till I visit again the bridge near the Merlion. I swear there's a SB located under the bridge!

For some vietnamese treats. I was with my photo buddy Vic to bond and talk about photography in my not-even-near-an-amateur-knowledge and his lumelevel-na-knowledge. He asked me why Vietnamese food. Just a craving (and my anticipated visit in that country- in my head). I showed him my wedding photos afterwards.

Total Recall

The remake of the 90's movie of the Governator. I wasn't really able to see the original but I remember my friend Chit telling us something about a woman with three breast that was not shown in the TV telecast. It looks like, this is where it came from. Though I'm not really sure about its relevance in the movie.

The movie is just BLAND. Though the robots, special effects, futuristic set-up are all OK thanks to Hollywood technology that all that it has. Even the fight scenes and car chase are plain boring.

For the actors, I just have to say Colin Farrell is HOT! I thought he's a goner and I never thought he could act helpless and vulnerable. And with all that shave beard, I just really want to look at him. Because most of the time I see him as a villain or a tough antagonist. Kate Beckinsale can kick ass. I just love her cat fight with Jessica Biel.

I'm just wandering how come Kate's character wants to Colin when she was ordered to bring him alive to the BOSS. The Colony looks like a combination of some Asian cities. I'm just wondering how come Asia is still viewed as to what was shown in the movie?

Music Monday: I Thought OPM Was Dead

I was wrong! And now I'm an idiot...Read it here.

I was immersed too much from mainstream madness, I didn't know OPM is staring right back at me. I'm hypercritical maybe because I don't see anything new. I haven't been watching MYX for a while and MTV Philippines vamoosed eons ago. And I don't listen to the radio anymore because I just stopped.
The article sums on what is really happening and how to keep OPM alive than ever.

Fine Dining - Short Film

I'm doing some short film round-up for the past few days. I'm hooked really. I remember John Red being interviewed in 5 and up about short films, pretty interesting shiz if you ask me. He mentioned something about a film that only lasted for 3 seconds. I find it weird but cool for my 6/7 year old brain.

The film is very heartwarming. I smiled and cried at the same time. I felt the love that this movie wants to transcend.

Filipino filmmaker Lance Katigbak, 18, won the People’s Choice award at the recent Manhattan International Film Festival in New York. His short film, Fine Dining, bested 14 entries from the United States, United Kingdom, India, Belgium, Rwanda, among other countries.

With a Piece Of Chalk - A Short Film

I'm always amazed on how a story can be created and presented beautifully in less than 4 minutes. What impresses me the most, is the use of dancing as the film's highlight. Brings out the frustrated dancer in me.

Music Monday: Genie In A Bottle

She has the VOICE: soulful and powerful. That sets her apart from Britney.

Sales Galore

Any sale especially if its 50-70% off is really blog-worthy.

I experience pupil dilatation and frothing of the mouth every time I see these sign. Ok fine, I'm exaggerating. It is in everyone's knowledge that many things here in SG are expensive. But if it goes on SALE consider it a giveaway. You have to watch out for the WAREHOUSE CLEARANCE SALES that's where the bargain happening is at. I usually get my infos from singapore-promotions.com for upcoming sales and deals.

The past few weeks "The Great Singapore Sale" (a.k.a. End of Season Clearance time of the year) has kept me busy and left no mercy for my wallet.

When I was in the PHL, I don't dare to go inside this store much often because of  the killer price tags. I've never thought that one day I could now shop at this store. And much better if its on sale. The sizes here suits the plus-size (like me) because of the variety of the choices. Take note: I can fit in a small to medium size in this store. Most of their style is classic the type of clothes that you could keep for a long time.
Dorothy Perkins: Again, for the variety of sizes available. They have casual, work and semi-formal attires to choose from.  Pull and Bear: All I want are the male shirt. They're comfortable and has this creative designs that I like.

Up next is the sale from SASA. Its almost like Watsons but without the drugstore. Going through it's sale items is like a candyshop treat for me.
OPI nail polish and Palmer's mini bottles of lotions

Lots of ELF make-up!!!!

A whole lot more of make-up goodness!

Office and School materials. Makes me want to go back to school and learn how to draw.

My advise, it doesn't mean that a certain thing is cheap you have to buy everything. Make sure you really use it and these things will be utilized for a long time. Buy wisely. I learned this lesson the hard way.

Enjoy Shopping

The animated movie adaptation of Rapunzel brought to you by Disney Films. It may be the typical once-upon-a-time and they-lived-happily-ever-after story but, the twists made the difference. The strength of the movie are the lessons it conveys I could very well relate to.

The best and sweetest moment for me is the lighting of the sky lanterns.
Finally, Rapunzel fulfilling her dream of seeing the sky lanterns up close.
Beautiful...I hope I could see the Loy Krathong Festival in Thailand.

He really is a pretty boy...*Le sigh

uuyyy moment
  • Make your dreams happen. Though you might need the help of others along the way, the first step should always be initiated by you.
  • Don't be afraid to dream. No such thing as a big or small dream.
  • Give thanks to those who helped you along the way.
  • Escape your comfort zone and explore the world. Possibilities are endless when the world is your playground.
  • You learn from your mistakes. It makes you stronger, smarter and be a bit of a fighter.
  • GIRLS, learn how to do self-defense. Seriously! In these tough and trying times a girl has to know how to defend oneself.

Over-all the movie is fun and entertaining. I have to give kudos to  Pascal, Max and the Thugs. They are too cute for words.

Me! A Writer?!

A few days ago, I received an e-mail from Hack.PH to be a web content writer. They are offering their site as a launch pad for my blog (meaning more readers/visitors thus an increased audience share). I feel honored, never in my life would someone offer me a writing job. Frankly speaking, my writing skills sucks. I could still remember taking up some writing workshop when I was in college. Though I became a writer for the school paper in my previous schools, it was derived to the school's regulations, theme, news etc. Then it has to be edited by my editors and adviser. Final approval comes from the principal.   On my first IELTS exam I failed to get a good grade for writing. With blogging, I write on my own pace, informality makes me comfortable and improve my English writing. I'm really surprised...seriously.

Second was the topic/subject. I'm no expert nor even near knowledgeable about information technology, internet security etc. I know my limitations and it's not my forte. I have to say no but, I will be forever grateful for asking me.

Mind you I remember telling my college friends that I want to join and win a Palanca. Well, I'm still open to the idea.

For those interested to be a web content writer, send an e-mail to Jennifer Mendoza on support@hack.ph.

The Expendables 2

Action packed, blood splattering, testosterone induced, brawn, guns, hard-core gym muscles and punchlines all packed into a dream team of action stars. I've grown up knowing some of the guys because Dad is an action film fan may it be Pinoy, Chinese or American. Up until now actually, I remember getting him an external memory disk. He asked my sissies to fill it up with his favorite action movies. Teehee ;) Actually the above shown team are lacking with a Steven Segal and Jackie Chan.

My initial thoughts when the movie was starting, "Gahd I wasted $11.50 for some noise pollution of guns." Turns out, it's just the icing of the cake. I found myself laughing at their 'moments' and soft side. I also found myself flinching and shouting (which 65% of the watchers does) due to blood splatter from multiple gunshots and fight scenes. Take note, I'm entertained meaning I was able to laugh at the 'punchlines' even if 75% of Stallone's face has no evidence of twitching or contraction. Story-wise not as complex as it seems to be. I wasn't able to watch the first so I'm not sure if there's any connection/significance from the first movie to this prequel.

All of them has their moment:
  1. Stallone- Barney Ross is the leader of the gang. He's a leader with a heart. Really! Don't let his looks, skulls and physique intimidate you. He's the foundation of this expendables without him they're nothing. He's a great example of a leader.
  2. Statham- In his oozing maleness and appeal his weakness: a WOMAN. His on-screen girlfriend.
  3. Schwarzenegger- Is this his comeback movie? Swabeng panggulo.
  4. Norris- Chuck Norris is Chuck Norris. Amidst the facts, jokes and more facts. He's the Lone Wolf that joined that pack.
  5. Li- I wish they kept him longer in the film. Of course he never failed to amaze me with his martial arts.
  6. Lundgren- His vulnerability showed when his love interest is not interested with him at all. He looks serious but some of the comedic antics came from him. Unexpected really.
  7. Van Damme- This is the first time I saw him as antagonist. It suits him. The dead pan/heartless facial expression and monotone Russian-like accent. The role is made for him. I've remembered because of his high kicks. He still has the kicking shizzles.
  8. Willis- Isa pang panggulo. Una galit kay Stallone, tapos sa huli makikijoin sa party. Ano beh! Gulo mo kuya.
  9. Couture- da who?
  10. Crews- When I see him all I could think of is White Chicks. I'm really impressed with his ripped body for his age. I thought his veins are going to explode when he was pulling apart the compartment door in the airplane scene. His softie-ness was shown while cooking his food and asked the question "What would you like to eat before you die?" I swear I thought "Thousand Miles" will be played in the background.
  11. Liam Hemsworth- The younger brother of Thor (Chris Hemsworth). The pretty boy, sniper and heart-breaker. He broke my heart when his character died early-on and left behind a French girlfriend who works as nurse. I thought the movie has finished when he died. Calling Miley Cyrus! Please don't break his heart.
  12. Nan Yu- I wish they gave her more kick-ass fight scenes that could justify her claim that she doesn't need to be looked after.

Music Monday: Da Best Ang Feeling

London Olympics 2012

In my 2 years here in SG, I witnessed 2 major sporting events that has a special impact in this country. The World Cup and London Olympics. I love the sense of importance, support and excitement that emanates in this place. It's hyped up to promote the country's genuine interest on reaching for the GOLD.

My fond memory on watching this was the 1992 Barcelona, Spain Summer Olympics. The time that Bea Lucero will be representing the country for Taekwondo at siya ang pinakasikat sa batch na yun. There was about more than 50 delegates to that said batch. After them, next few Olympics was a blur. It only touched my senses again during Michael Phelps historic Beijing medal sweep.

Now that, I'm here in another country, I still can't believe am providing time in watching ANY game that I could come across. Too bad I missed the opening ceremony but, my friend Badzy who's based in London together with her colleagues experienced it first hand. That is so cool! They were even featured in TV Patrol.

There are a lot to see in the Olympics aside from the sports.

1. Awesome and larger that life cameras and telelens.  Here's a peek from the Canon Gear room.

3. Iphoneography at its best. Olympic Smartphone photoblog by Dan Chung.

4. The bodies to die for...The Olympic winning body for myself and the ripped bodies of these swimmers. I just love looking at their Latissimus Dorsi.

Ryan Lochte he may be M.P.'s shadow but no shadow can hide his yummy-ness tee-hee ;)\

5. Many hotel have lowered their rates for the  Olympic season. But its supposed to increase especially with this kind of events. Right?!

For the next few days we'll just have to wait and see who will be the Olympic champion. Lets keep watching and good luck to everyone.

Never say die, Team Philippines.
